Food for life….

I can’t say I am a massive foodie, nor can I say I love food. What I can say is that I like to eat nice, healthy and nutritional food that will not make me sick by 10pm at night.

For most people food is something they can eat and enjoy be it healthy or a little naughty. For me and many others that suffer from Crohns colitis it can be a little bit like Russian roulette. You see I used to have what I believed where mini food poisoning episodes that happened every night at ten pm followed by a nice little low BP session on the way back to bed. My parents didn’t know this as I thought it was normal and my parents believed in themselves in bed by 9.30pm and this was late.

Time fast forward by 20 years and I got a little sick and found I have and have had crohns my whole life ( oh and yeah the Dr said there’s NO SUCH THING as mini food poisoning ) I still believe in it.

I asked the doctor about diet and he said that I should continue with what I did as I had listened to my body and discarded all the foods that had made me ill.

I now live my life on fresh produce, I don’t eat meat( except whilst pregnant or my body craves it) and basically no breads. I also have fabulously tasty smoothies that give me all my daily nutritional needs.

Does this mean that I can’t enjoy my life NO quite the opposite, I no longer get sick nightly and enjoy a happy active life. I don’t need medical intervention as I use the food I eat as my medicine. Also I try and stay away from areas that people are smoking ( no offence to smokers I just get sick when I breath the chemicals).

Food for life is so important for everyone not just those with an illness, this is why it is so important that we try to nourish our bodies with chemical free, in season fresh produce. The more chemicals that are in our foods the more resistant we become to medicine from the pharmaceutical companies, which means that when the need arises the most they have no benefit to us.

I know that there is a movement out there to raise awareness to this and I hope that my story helps inspire others.
